Marlboro Electric’s celebrates 68th Annual Meeting

Over 1,200 people gathered at Marlboro Electric Cooperative’s 68th Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 18th to enjoy the music, food and fellowship. A total of 1,224 members registered, each receiving a Procter Silex food chopper and a compact fluorescent light bulb.

The musical sounds of the Melodyaires Gospel group were heard across Marlboro County High School as attendees ate hot dogs, chips and baked goods sold by WIRE. Laughter and energy excelled as Snikkles the Clown and Lemonade painted the children’s faces.

Dwight Johnson, owner and manager of WBSC radio, broadcasted live at the annual meeting and interviewed many of those attending. Booths displayed included Our Energy Our Future, WIRE, Energy Efficiency, Hospice and Marlboro Park Hospital.

Marlboro Electric’s General Counsel Doug Jennings held the business portion of the meeting with Eddie Gordon (District 1), Raymond Woodle (District 2) and Janelle Sauls (District 9) reelected to the Board of Trustees.

Master of Ceremonies Lou Green had the honor of making the day exciting when he announced a member’s number for a door prize. Semi-grand door prizes were given throughout the business meeting. Margaret Ellerbe of Bennettsville won a new refrigerator; Gloria J. Quick of Bennettsville won a LCD High Definition television with a DVD player; Anthony Bright of Bennettsville won a Whirlpool Estate Super Capacity washer & Extra Large Capacity dryer; and Edwin Toro of Latta won an electric stove.

The grand prize winner of the 2002 Ford truck is Lucille Bryant of Little Rock. Other door prizes included: Bolens edge trimmer, Gourmet Electric Smoker & Grill, Hamilton Beach blender, George Forman toaster oven/broiler, Black & Decker Hedge Trimmer, Galaxy pedestal fan, bronze stand-up lamp, Stanley rolling tool box & tools, clothes, caps, BBQ grill sets, vehicle battery, deluxe travel bag, baskets of goodies, clothing items, gas cards, gift cards and many other nice items.
