Striving to Reduce Costs

Second cost reduction in 6 months for MEC

MARLBORO ELECTRIC AND ITS BOARD OF TRUSTEES continue to strive in 2010 to reduce costs for our members, and it is paying off again.

A cost savings of $2.50 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours for residential and commercial members will be effective March 1. Due to timely efforts, this is the second cost reduction in the last six months. The first cost reduction became effective September 1. Through hard work and determination, the co-op has cut operating expenses and has strived to operate more efficiently. Delaying new line construction projects and other programs to a later date has also made it possible for these savings to be passed along to our members.

However, this cost reduction does not compromise Marlboro Electric’s reliable service. We are committed to the quality and integrity of our systems.

We know that our members need our help now. In addition to the cost reduction, Marlboro Electric is assisting the South Carolina Energy Office in promoting the rebates for Energy Star-certified refrigerators, dishwashers, water heaters and other appliances.

South Carolinians can replace old household appliances with new energy-efficient models and receive discounts of $50 to $500 beginning March 31. See the list of rebates below. We encourage you to take advantage of the many savings programs offered at Marlboro Electric, such as the Co-op Connections, a new Help My House program and the Energy Star appliance rebates. Marlboro Electric cannot control the weather or the amount of electricity used in your home, but please know we are doing all we can to look out for our members.
